05/03/2025 - spotify
if there’s anything to know about me, it’s that i will do the most to avoid paying for shit online. if there’s another thing to know about me, it’s that i basically live and breathe music, which you might have figured out from spending three seconds on this site. while it is true i sometimes listen to music via my CD collection, a lot of the things i listen to on repeat i don’t have on CD yet [and a lot like the album symbols or anything by mindless self indulgence are hard to find and typically expensive to find in physical media at all]. due to this, i often find myself streaming music, typically via spotify.
but spotify free sucks ass. to mitigate this problem, i’ve been using a cracked version of spotify premium for about a year now. it worked out just fine until a few days ago, when songs refuse to play whatsoever. looking up the issue online, i believe they started to crack down on apk users like me, though if you don’t want people pirating your app, then maybe make it useable? but what do i know.
what’s one to do when their main way of listening to music doesn’t work anymore? spend the night downloading several gigabytes worth of music. like any person would. sweet, i finally had a way to listen to the music i love again. …except for the fact that i also like to track the music i listen to via last.fm. this too was an easy fix, however, as asking a few people around on discord led me to pano scrobbler. it’s been working for the most part, at least when i have the app running. otherwise it only logs like, every fourth song on a good day. i could just log everything manually, but that’s tedious. for now i’ve been leaving the app open and praying that it doesn’t eat away at my battery. i’m sure i’ll find a better solution. eventually.
